Definitions of Cannabis Sample Types

A general term that refers to the smokable, trichome-covered part of a female cannabis plant.  May also be referred to as HEMP, although this term is often used to refer only to varieties of Cannabis cultivated for non-drug use.  Three species may be recognized as part of the plant/flower; sativa, indica and ruderalis.

Edibles (gummies, candies, chocolate & baked goods) & beverages, sprays, ointments and tinctures.  Marijuana-infused products are defined as concentrated marijuana products that are composed of marijuana and intended for consumption.

Concentrates are substances in which the more desirable properties of cannabis, namely cannabinoids and terpenes, have been isolated.  Cannabis concentrate is a substance that has a concentration of greater than 3% of THC.

Hemp Biomass is the remaining dry plant matter (stalks & leaves).  This helps to distinguish the three primary parts of the hemp plant when we talk about biomass:  hemp flowers, leaves and stalks.  The highest CBD concentration can be found in the flower, but it can also be extracted from the stalks and leaves.

Seedling.  A very young plant, generally 1-4 weeks.  Cannabis plants are treated as seedings until they develop leaves with a full number of fingers, typically 3 to 13.

Tincture of cannabis, sometimes known as green dragon, is an alcoholic cannabis concentrate.  Cannabis tinctures are used in the production of specific extracts, like nabiximols.

CBD isolate is a form of CBD, or cannabidiol, which is a chemical compound present in the cannabis plant.  Unlike full-spectrum CBD products, CBD isolate does not contain any THC - the psychoactive component of cannabis. 

You probably know what extract is - a substance that contains cannabinoids like THC and CBD, retrieved from the cannabis plant material.  Raffinate is the starting material.  In the case of cannabis infusions, it is the leftover flower strained out after infusion.
